The Wind

A Poem by James Reeves

I can get through a doorway without any key,
And strip the leaves from the great oak tree.
I can drive storm-clouds and shake tall towers,
Or steal through a garden and not wake the flowers.
Seas I can move and ships I can sink;
I can carry a house-top or the scent of a pink.
When I am angry I can rave and riot; And when I am spent,
I lie quiet as quiet.

Looking Deeper…

This poem is called “The Wind” by James Reeves. It is about all the things the wind can do.
To “steal” can mean to move quietly or sneak. Wind can move quietly or very loudly, depending on how fast it is blowing.
Wind from large storms like hurricanes and tornadoes can move large things like roofs and even cars. It’s important to know how to stay safe when weather like this happens in your town.
