What Else is in the Solar System?

The four inner planets are the closest to the Sun. These planets are solid and are mostly made of metal. The inner planets don’t have very many moons, if they have them at all. Between the inner and our planets is an asteroid belt.

Asteroids are space rocks that can be very small or almost as large as a dwarf planet.

The four outer planets, are huge and made of gas. They all have rings and lots of moons.

Past the outer planets lies a second, much larger belt that contains space objects such as dwarf planets, comets and other frozen objects. Comets are frozen collections of ice, dust and rocks that give off gases when they get close enough to the Sun to warm up. We see these gases as the glowing head and tail of the comet.
