Seasonal Jet Steam Differences

The location of the jet stream changes with the seasons. A difference in temperatures between air above and below the jet stream changes with the seasons because of the increase or decrease in solar energy. This temperature contrast creates a pressure gradient, creating winds that drive the polar jet stream south during the winter months and more north during summer.
