When air moves from high pressure to low pressure horizontally, wind is created. On a weather map, the closer together or tighter the isobars are, the stronger the winds speeds will be in that area. Winds move parallel to the placement of the isobars. Vertical movement of air due to pressure differences is largely balanced by the force of gravity so upward and downward acceleration of an air parcel due to pressure is usually very small.
