Temperature on Earth

Temperature is a large part of the climate of an area and is largely determined by four factors:

  • Latitude - higher latitudes have lower temperature due to less direct solar radiation.
  • Land and Water - Areas near water have more stable temperatures and less shifts both daily and seasonally.
  • Ocean Currents - Warm ocean currents can bring heat to coastal areas, and cold currents can take heat from coastal areas.
  • Elevation - Areas with high elevation tend to have lower temperatures due to less air pressure.
