Diurnal Temperature Range

  • The difference between the high and low temperature each day is called the diurnal temperature range (DTR).
  • Several factors affect the DTR including cloud cover, precipitation, humidity, soil type and nearness to water.
  • The largest DTRs occur in high deserts. For example, cities in Nevada can have a range of over 40°F in summer months.
