Investigate the following question:
How does the Greenhouse Effect help to determine the temperature on Earth?
- 2 plastic soda bottles (large enough for thermometers)
- 2 thermometers
- Clear food wrap
- Rubber band
- Tape
- Scissors or blade
- Soil (not shown)
- Cut the tops off of the bottles so you have a large, round opening.
- Add 2 cm of soil to the bottom of each bottle.
- Place the thermometers inside the bottles. You may want to tape them to the sides, facing out so you will easily be able to read them later.
- Record the temperature in each bottle.
- Cover one bottle with the clear food wrap and use the rubber band to secure it.
- Place both bottles in the sun.
- Take the temperature every minute for 15 minutes and record in a data table you have created.
- While you wait, take a picture of your bottles to upload with your assignment.
