This animation shows the average density of sea surface water, which is calculated using temperature and salinity. On this map, lighter areas show less dense water and darker areas show more dense water. Look for these regions on the rotating globe (the sea around Iceland, Greenland and Scandinavia and under the Antarctic Ice Shelves).
