Some of the impacts of El Niño are:

  • Warmer ocean waters in the Pacific decreases the number fish caught.
  • More rainfall in the winter across the southern tier of the United States increases the threat of floods.
  • In the late winter and early spring there is an increased threat of tornadoes in Florida.
  • During the summer, there is decreased hurricane activity in the Atlantic Ocean.
