Clear wildland bushes away from your home to make space between your home and the wooded area of your yard. Instead of burning yard trash and household trash, encourage your family to try recycling, composting or disposing of trash in approved landfills. Burning household trash can release dangerous fumes into the air you breathe, and also release hot embers that could spark fires somewhere else nearby. Develop a disaster plan, including a plan for evacuating your home and neighborhood.
