The lowest sea-level air pressure ever recorded was 870 mb (25.69 in. Hg) measured on October 12, 1979 in the eye of Typhoon Tip as it moved over Guam.
Weather Fact: While the air pressure reading in Typhoon Tip was the lowest recorded, the air pressures inside tornadoes are no doubt lower. However, because the winds of a tornado are so strong they destroy barometers, no readings have ever been confirmed.
