Words to Know

  • Meteorology - the study of the Earth’s atmosphere, with a focus on weather and climate.
  • Agriculture - the cultivation of animals and plants to sustain human life, including food consumption, medicinal, the creation of fibers, and biofuels.
  • Hydrology - the study of the water on the Earth’s surface, including movement, supply, and quality.
  • Evaporation - the process in which liquid changes into a gas. Evaporation is the main process by which water enters the atmosphere. Evaporation occurs all over the Earth over bodies of water, large and small.
  • Transpiration - the nearly invisible process of moisture being taken up by the root system from groundwater, up to the underside of the leaves, where it evaporates and releases back into the atmosphere.
