Eclipse

An eclipse occurs when a planet or a moon moves into the path of the light from the sun. The distance between the Sun and the Earth is about 400 times the distance than the Moon to the Earth, and the Sun is about 400 times the size of the diameter of the Moon. This means that both the Sun and the Moon appear to be the same size. On Earth, we can observe two different types of eclipses:

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun and blocks the light from the Sun.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth moves between the Moon and Sun and blocks the light of the Sun.

Let’s explore each of these different types of eclipses in more detail.
