Air Quality and Health

Like the weather, the quality of the air you breathe changes daily, but can also change every hour. Because of these constant changes, it is essential to monitor the AQI because it can affect your health. Short term exposure to poor air quality can aggravate asthma, while more prolonged exposure can cause some of the following illnesses:

  • Respiratory infections, such as chronic bronchitis, obstructive pulmonary disease (OPD), and changes in lung function.
  • Heart Disease, including heart attacks, irregular heartbeats, and strokes.
  • Heart and lung cancer.
