Tools to Measure the Wind

An anemometer is a tool that measures wind speed. How does it work?

• The anemometer has small cups attached to an arm that is mounted on a vertical pole.
• Wind catches the cups and makes them move. The faster the cups turn, the faster the wind is blowing. Wind speed is measured in miles per hour, kilometers per hour, or knots.
