Headwinds, tailwinds and crosswinds can all be present on raceday.

- Since the cars are moving in all directions while speeding around the track, drivers must carefully consider the speed and direction of the winds when planning their race strategy.
- Drafting is one way drivers reduce wind resistance, particularly from headwinds.
