Effects of ENSO

The strength, duration and size of each El Niño or La Niña event varies. Some events can be very strong and others can be weaker; some events can last less than a year while others can last for multiple years. El Niño and La Niña have differing impacts on the United States that stretch far beyond the Pacific Ocean. These impacts are strongest during the winter.
