Snow and Snow Depth

Snowfall is the accumulated new snow that fell in the past 24-hours. It is measured at the end of the snow event, before the snow has a chance to melt or settle. Snow is measured to the nearest tenth (0.10"). The snow depth is the average depth of snow (including both old & new snow and ice) that is on the ground.

In order to make snow depth measurements, observers use: 1) Ruler/Yard Stick, and 2) 16" x 20" piece of pile wood, painted white
