Hail Measurements

In order to determine the size of hail, the National Weather Service uses traditional object-to-size conversions that compares hail to the sizes of coins, sporting equipment and other items for quick assessment and translation of severe weather reports. Small hailstones are more circular in sizes and become more irregular when hail grows to larger sizes.
