Hurricane Danny was the only hurricane to make landfall during the 1997 Hurricane Season. When the storm stalled off the coast of Alabama, the northerly winds forced the water out of Mobile Bay causing tides to be two feet below normal, making it possible to walk across portions of the tidal basin.
