Flooding events in West Virginia have been caused by the remnants of tropical storms and hurricanes, along with snowmelt and heavy rains during the winter and spring. The direct and indirect impacts of these events caused significant flooding in 1943, 1957, 1977, 1985, 1996, and 2016.
