Chill Accumulation

Most temperate plants enter a dormant state during the fall and winter.
These plants actually require exposure to cold temperatures for the bud to come out of dormancy and resume normal growth during the spring.
Unusually warm winters may cause the plant to bud later in the season, for fruit to be smaller in size and lower in quality.
