Chill Accumulation and Crops

Chill accumulation is expressed in hours. All of the hours that the temperature is recorded below a certain threshold are added together.

The temperature threshold depends on the type of plant and can range from 32°F to 60°F.
Some examples of crops that depend on chill accumulation are: oranges, apples, peaches, blueberries, carrots, celery and sugar beets.
