Source: What is the connection between ozone and climate change? | Chicago Community Climate Action Toolkit
Ozone is a naturally-occurring atmospheric gas that exists both in the stratosphere and the troposphere. Stratospheric Ozone is a key gas to prevent dangerous UV-B radiation from reaching Earth’s surface. Tropospheric Ozone (Ground-level ozone) is produced by hydrocarbons that are released from plants and soils. Another source of ground-level ozone is from stratospheric ozone that works its way down to the surface.
