A watch means that tropical storm or hurricane conditions are possible in the next 48 hours.
A warning means that tropical storm or hurricane conditions are expected in the next 36 hours.
Maps are used to outline the coastal areas that are issued the advisories.
Although the coast is the only area highlighted, tropical storm and hurricane conditions are felt well inland.
