What is Citrus?

Citrus is a common term and genus of flowering fruit plants in the rue family, known as Rutaceae. Some of the best known examples of citrus include oranges, lemons, grapefruits and limes.

Citrus is a fleshy fruit that contains:

  • Rind: leathery peel that contains oil glands
  • Carpels: separate sections of fruit that are juice-filled
  • Pip: the seeds
