What is a Wave?

Why was it important to recall information about observing the wind? In the context of this lesson, the wind is one of most common factors in the formation of waves. Friction causes some of the energy of the wind to be transferred as it blows over the surface of a body of water. This energy passing through the water causes it to move in a circular motion. As the wave moves across the surface of the water, the energy, not the water moves. If there were no obstructions in the ocean, a wave could travel across an entire ocean basin, though it would be smaller than when it originally formed.
