Cloud Classification System
Cloud classification is a relatively new subject in science, unlike astronomy,
in which constellations have been studied and documented for more than a
millennium. A French naturalist named Lamarck was the first person to propose
classifying clouds. However, the Latin-based system discussed in Essay On the
Modification of Clouds, written in 1803 by the English naturalist Luke Howard,
became widely accepted.
