Plant Hardiness Zones

Agriculture is a huge part of the economy of Georgia. Nearly 40% of the nation’s peanuts and pecan are produced in Georgia. The USDA Plant Hardiness Zones are the standard by which gardeners and growers can determine which plants are most likely to thrive at a location. The map is based on the average annual minimum winter temperature, divided into different zones.

Here are some examples of fruits and vegetables grown within the Georgia Plant Hardiness Zones:

  • apples
  • berries
  • cabbage
  • corn
  • cotton
  • peaches
  • soybeans
  • wheat

In addition to crops, beef cattle, broilers (young chickens), dairy cattle and hogs are produced in the state.
