Solar energy output varies periodically due to the Sun’s changing magnetic fields. This variation creates sunspots which result in more solar energy reaching the Earth. Earth’s “energy budget” is determined by the amount of energy entering and leaving the planet and creates cooling and warming trends for Earth’s climate.
