Greenhouse Gases and Climate

Water vapor is the most abundant greenhouse gas. As water vapor increases with temperature, evaporation, condensation and precipitation can increase too. All of this can influence Earth’s energy budget and climate.

Nitrous Oxide is produced by soil cultivation with fertilizers and the combustion of fossil fuels.

This hydrocarbon gas is produced by natural processes (decomposition) and human activities. Methane is a more active greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide but it is less abundant in the atmosphere.

Carbon Dioxide is a minor component of the atmosphere, but remains the most important long-lived greenhouse gas. It is created through natural processes (respiration) and human activities (burning of fossil fuels).
