The official 24-hour rainfall record for the state of Texas was a result of the torrential rainfall caused by Tropical Storm Claudette. A record 42.00 inches, was observed by a station in Alvin, Texas on July 25-26,1979.
This total remained the 24-hour rainfall record for any location in the United States, until recently, when a new record was confirmed in Hawaii. A station located in Waipā Garden, Kauai, Hawaii recorded 49.69 inches of rain fell on April 14-15, 2018.
