WeatherSTEM Fusion: Wind Rose

A wind rose is used to show the relative frequency of the wind direction at a location, using 16 cardinal directions, such as north (N), north-northeast (NNE), northeast (NE), etc.

The length of the ‘spokes’ is broken down into categories that show the percentage of time that the winds blow from a particular direction at certain wind speeds.

Looking at the data from the WeatherSTEM station at over the past week, answer the following questions:

  • Which directions has the wind been blowing from the most?
  • What color do you see used the most?
  • What are the wind speeds for that color?
