The Beginning of Military Weather Observations

On February 9, 1870, President Ulysses S. Grant signed into law a resolution that required the Secretary of War “...to provide for taking meteorological observations at military stations in the interior of the continent and at other points in the States and Territories…”
This led the way for advances in weather forecasting and prediction in times of war and peacetime.
