Modern Military Meteorology

Just like civilian meteorologists, weather specialist in the military are tasked with:

  • Taking atmospheric observations including temperature, pressure, humidity, wind speed and direction
  • Launching weather balloons to record upper-air observations
  • Analyzing data on weather maps, radar and satellites and use data to help forecast weather conditions

Observing the weather is used for not only wartime efforts, but day to day operations, training, equipment testing, and humanitarian missions.
