Weather Satellites
In the 1950’s scientists were beginning to explore the idea of looking at the Earth from space and began to launch satellites for that purpose.
- Today, there are over 2,500 different satellites that orbit the Earth.
- Weather satellites work by sensing the electromagnetic radiation from the surface below.
- Sensors record different parts of the spectrum that are either absorbed, emitted or scattered by gases and particles in the atmosphere.
