Rain and Tennis

Even light rain can bring matches to a halt. Play is usually suspended during rain, regardless of the court’s surface, to keep players safe from injury. Since clay courts have low porosity, water does not drain and can pool to create a slick mud. Grass courts become extremely slippery and hazardous when it rains. Hard courts are easiest to clear and dry after any rain because they do not absorb any water, so the water can be pushed off the surface.
