Plant Hardiness Zones

The USDA Plant Hardiness Zones are the standard by which gardeners and growers can determine which plants are most likely to thrive at a location. The map is based on the average annual minimum winter temperature, divided into different zones.

Here are some examples of fruits and vegetables grown within each Florida Plant Hardiness Zone:

  • 8a (10-15°F) & 8b (15-20°F): blueberries, watermelons, cabbage, soybeans
  • 9a (20-25°F) & 9b (25-30°F): strawberries, peaches, lettuce, sweet potatoes
  • 10a (30-35°F) & 10b (35-40°F): grapefruit, oranges, sugarcane, bell peppers
  • 11a (40-50°F): no agriculture is grown in the Florida Keys
