This graphic from the National Hurricane Center shows the areas affected by sustained winds of tropical storm force (in orange) and hurricane force (in red).
The wind field associated with Hurricane Ida was large, and hurricane-force winds (sustained wind speeds of at least 64 knots or 74 mph) extended out 50 miles from the storm's center. The sustained wind speeds of tropical-storm-force winds(34 knots or 39 mph) extend out nearly 200 miles from the eye.
Wind gusts over 100 mph were measured along the Louisiana coast and even well-inland into portions of southwestern Mississippi as the storm moved north. Sustained winds of tropical storm strength were observed in Alabama and Mississippi, with tropical- storm-force gusts measured in western Florida.
