This graphic from the National Hurricane Center shows the areas affected by sustained winds of tropical storm force (in orange) and hurricane force (in red).
The wind field associated with Hurricane Michael was large and hurricane force winds, sustained wind speeds of at least 64 knots or 74 mph, extended out 50 miles from the center of the storm and the sustained wind speeds of tropical storm force winds, 34 knots or 39 mph, extending out nearly 200 miles from the eye.
Wind gusts over 100 mph were measured along the Florida coast, and even well-inland into portions of southwestern Georgia as the storm moved north across the Southeast. Sustained winds of tropical storm strength were observed across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia.
