Hurricane Michael roared ashore as a major hurricane (Category 4) with wind speeds of 155 mph. It is the strongest storm on record (since 1851) to make landfall along the Florida Panhandle, stronger than Hurricane Opal (1995), Hurricane Dennis (2005). Extensive damage was sustained to every structure in Mexico Beach and on Tyndall Air Force Base, while major damage occurred in Bay, Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Jackson, Leon, and Wakulla counties.
