Impacts: Florida

The areas of the Panhandle hardest hit by Hurricane Michael are those rural communities, which rely heavily on agriculture and sustained an estimated total loss for Florida's Agricultural Industry of nearly $1.5 Billion. These crop losses were due to direct impacts of wind and flooded fields, spoiled products, dead livestock and decreased yields from crops that survived the initial result of the storm; and includes the ancillary costs of debris clean-up, and damage to infrastructure and equipment.

Some of the agricultural losses incurred by Hurricane Michael are:

  • Forestry: $1,289,023,465
  • Cotton: $49,877,183
  • Cattle: $43,319,925
  • Peanuts: $23,049,369
  • Nurseries and Floriculture: $16,117,366
  • Poultry and Eggs: $10,026,000
  • Vegetables: $8,613,841
  • Other Field Crops: $7,282,946
  • Dairy: $6,435,000
